Walmart Canada Announces Layoffs: 400 Jobs Axed

Walmart Canada is changing its way of doing business in stores, resulting in the removal of 400 jobs, or 0.4% of its workforce (90,000 people).

The goal, says the retailer, is to improve customer service.

Walmart stated in a written statement that it had “adjusted the structure” in its branches so that employees “could work throughout the store instead of just within a specific department”.

This change “allows [employees] to use their skills and knowledge across multiple departments, ultimately improving operational efficiencies and customer experience across the branch.”

Walmart operates 410 stores in Canada.
