Expect severe winds along a squall line over Eastern Ontario and also near Toronto with strong westerly winds gusting between 60 to 90 km/h.
A rapidly intensifying low pressure system is tracking northeastward across Central Ontario early this morning. A strong cold front accompanying this feature is quickly moving across Southern Ontario.
Two lines of heavy showers near or ahead of the front are accompanied by severe winds. The strongest is over Eastern Lake Ontario where Point Petre reported a wind gust to 133 km/h. Another intense band is passing through Toronto which has gusted to 107 km/h.
These lines are moving east-northeast and will effect shoreline communites adjacent to Lake Ontario as well as along the St Lawrence up to 7:30 am with a continued threat for severe damaging wind gusts.
In the wake of the cold front, strong westerly winds of 60 km/h gusting to 90 are forecast mainly near the shorelines of the great lakes. Strong winds will persist for a few hours before diminishing below warning levels a little later today.
