Maurice Clemmons shot dead Tuesday before dawn was major news on the Pacific coast. Seattle, Washington police and SWAT team members had been pursuing this 37 year old suspect since Sunday when he was announced as the person believed to have been responsible for ambushing and killing 4 police officers in a Seattle coffee shop.
It is still not known what led to the identification of Clemmons as the prime suspect. However there were witnesses to the shooting that were being interviewed only moments after the incident had occurred. Videos were also believed to have been important in the early hours of the investigation.
A news conference is scheduled for later in the day. Police officials in Seattle have announced that they will then discuss how and why Maurice Clemmons was so quickly linked to the brutal deaths of the four policemen.
The Seattle manhunt was a major news story Monday. At one point police thought they had Maurice Clemmons cornered in a home in Leschi; but later discovered that their quarry, although wounded, had once again eluded them. Efforts to apprehend the shooting suspect were intensified immediately, and the reward for information soared to more than $100K.
Early Tuesday morning the hunt ended in the hours just before dawn on Tuesday. Maurice Clemmons, a 37 year old ex-con, was shot dead and his life ended as violently as it had been lived. Now there are many questions that must be answered, and 5 families that will be grieving the loss of their loved ones.
