Washington - Del Martin, a pioneer for lesbian rights, has died at the age of 87.

She pushed for her whole life for lesbian rights, trying to allow those who wanted to get married, be allowed to do so.

She married her partner the first day it was made legal in California.

She has unfortunately died at the age of 87, with her wife Phyllis Lyon by her side.

The news comes from the executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Kate Kendell.

She stated that Del Martin died at a San Francisco hospital on Wednesday morning.

This came two weeks after she has a broken arm become exacerbated.
