Atlantic City (EON) – The mayor of Atlantic City, N.J. Robert Levy has resigned after going missing for two weeks and being accused of lying on his military record.
His lawyer made the announcement that he has resigned as Attorney Edwin Jacobs stated that Mayor Levy has been going through treatment for substance abuse as well as mental health issues.
City officials last heard from him on September 26th which is when the major problems for Levy began to begin according to his attorney.
Officials have been looking into whether or not the 64-year-old Levy lied about his military service record in order to increase his veteran’s benefits. He was in the Army for 20 years and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. The investigation is calling question to two of the three awards and citations awarded to Levy for his duty.
Jacobs stated “Mr. Levy has concluded that public confidence is so eroded … that the only responsible action is to step down.”
