Detroit (EON) – Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee Senator and 2008 Republican candidate for president has admitted being rusty in regards to his debate skills, which will be put to the test in his first debate in Michigan on Tuesday.
The actor and lawyer was absent in the debate last month and has admitted in the past that he is a “little rusty” when it comes to debating. He has promised though that he is going to debate “early and often” and will get his chance on Tuesday.
Instead of taking part in a debate last month Thompson chose to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and announce his 2008 White House run.
It has been over a decade since Thompson has prepared for a formal debate was a Tennessee senator. Thompson has been practicing at home in mock debate sessions with campaign advisers to prepare for the big debate.
Thompson communications director Todd Harris stated that “He’s never going to be as slick as some of the other candidates, or as politically correct as some of the other candidates. But he will be the most authentic. With Fred Thompson, what you see if what you get.”
Thompson stated last week in Chicago that “I’m just going to be the best that I can. I am a little – probably a little rusty – on my sound bit responses.”
