George Bush used his presidential power to veto a bill which would give health insurance to millions of poor children in AmericaWashington (EON) - George Bush used his presidential power to veto a bill which would give health insurance to millions of poor children in America.

This is the fourth time in the past seven years that Bush has blocked legislation which would have made this a reality and would have given millions of children far healthier futures in the United States.

Bush stated that he opposed the expansion of the existing insurance program and used his veto power to put a stop to the legislation which would have made it a reality. This puts Bush in a huge conflict with Congress as there is a great deal of support on Congress from Republicans in regards to this legislation.

The legislation put forth would have extended health coverage to 10 million poor children in America and would have cost $60 billion over the next five years.

The legislation is supported by many outside of Congress as well such as state governors, health insurance companies, etc.

Bush stated that “this legislation would move health care in this country in the wrong direction. Under this bill government coverage would displace private health insurance for many children.”

Democrats stated that the veto by Bush was ridiculous and as Edward Kennedy stated “The same president who is willing to throw away a half trillion dollars in Iraq is unwilling to spend a small fraction of that amount to bring health care to American children.”
