Bush vs. Congress In Spending Bill Showdown

Sunday marks the end of the fiscal year and the beginning of a struggle for President Bush as he has called on Congress veto any new spending, while Dems call for changeWashington (EON) – Sunday marks the end of the fiscal year and the beginning of a struggle for President Bush as he has called on Congress veto any new spending, while Dems call for change.

Bush stated on Monday at the White House that “The principle should be that there’d be no new spending, no new policies, and no new projects, unless the president and Congress agree in advance on a specific item.”

A short-term continuing resolution is expected by the House on Wednesday which would fund the government until the middle of November when Congress leaves for the year.

Bush stated that he wants Congress to look at each bill separately. Bush is warning of a government shutdown as even the Press Secretary Dana Perino stated “We don’t want to see that happen … I don’t think Congress wants to see that happen.”

Bush put down a budget plan by the Democrats in Congress which would be $22 billion over what he requested. he stated that the difference is larger than “the annual revenues of most Fortune 500 companies.”

The battle is just beginning over the budget with Bush and Congress squaring off toe to toe with a government shutdown impending if the two sides do not agree.
