Washington (EON) – President George W. Bush is expected to nominate former chief judge of Manhattan’s federal trial court Michael Mukasey as the new attorney general.
Many inside sources at the White House are stating that Bush may make the announcement of the nomination of the 66-year-old to head up the U.S. Justice Department as early as Monday.
Bush is likely making this appointment in order to get on some good graces with lawmakers who have been attacking him for various controversies.
This comes after Attorney General Aberto Gonzales resigned on August 27, 2007. He resigned after being accused of misleading Congress about 9 U.S. attorney firings as well as anti-terrorism programs.
The resignation of Gonzales is effective as of today, Monday. He will give his final speech to agency employees on Friday. Until a replacement is confirmed Paul Clement who is the Justice Department’s top Supreme Court lawyer, will be acting attorney general.
