Edwards now well ahead in union endorsements

Posted by admin in US (Monday September 3, 2007 at 12:33 pm)

Ringed by about 1,000 union members in various shades of matching t-shirts and speaking over the occasional rat-tats of marching bands massing for a parade in a nearby parking lot, Edwards claimed the support of the United Steelworkers and the United Mineworkers of America – and with them, the mantle of the most union-backed candidate in the Democratic field so far. John Edwards Union

Washington – Two unions have picked who they want in the White House… former Senator John Edwards. The Democratic presidential candidate is getting the nod from the United Steelworkers and the United Mine Workers of America. He’ll accept the endorsements today in Pittsburgh, home of the Steelworkers’ international headquarters.

Edwards says members of those two unions are some of the country’s hardest-working, bravest, most courageous workers, and their work helps build a stronger America.

This puts Edwards ahead of all other Democratic hopefuls in labor endorsements. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America are also backing him.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has been endorsed by the United Transportation Union and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
