Washington (EON) – Two of the aides to President Bush have been placed as targets by the Democrats for criminal contempt against Congress and will receive a vote on the contempt Wednesday.
A legal fight has been ongoing with President Bush and his executive privilege as well as the White House deliberations on the firings of the federal prosecutors.
On Wednesday a panel is set to vote on White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former Counsel Harriet Miers for contempt of Congress.
Rep. John Conyers, who is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, will have his panel do the vote.
Conyers stated that “It is still my hope that they will reconsider this hard-line position and cooperate with our investigation so that we can get to the bottom of this matter.” The Bush administration though has shown no signs of moving from its state of mind it is currently.

If whatever penalty Congress attaches to Bush aides can and will be pardoned by Bush — what is the point of administering cosmetic charges?

Understandable; Conyers has no credibility to lose.
Even if the advice did not directly concern the functioning of the executive branch (as it does), and even if we were not talking about officers who serve at the pleasure of the president (which we are), congress does not trump the executive branch. Bush would simply pardon any conviction, if Conyers had a prayer of getting one (which he doesn’t).
Besides, how is it possible not to show contempt for this dog and pony show?
