Washington – Washington (dpa) – Police in the US state of Connecticut found alive a 15-year-old girl who had been missing for nearly a year and who had been feared dead, the Hartford Courant newspaper reported Thursday.
Danielle Cramer had run away from home last June, and police feared she had been murdered. When searching a home for evidence of the missing girl on Wednesday, officers found a door to a small closet under the stairs that had been hidden behind a large dresser, the newspaper said. Inside they found the girl, who cried as she was led from the house.
A man and two women who live in the house were arrested on numerous charges including unlawful restraint.
The girl is not believed to have lived inside the 90 by 150 centimetre-large space. Also unclear was what sort of relationship she had with Adam Gault, the 41-year-old man who owned the house with his common law wife and who was an acquaintance of Cramer’s family.
“This was a child from troubled circumstances who found what she believed to be a friend,” police Captain Jeffrey Blatter said. “You have a 14-year-old girl under the influence of a 40-year-old man. I’m not sure if her belief of the situation is accurate.”
The girl was being medically and psychologically evaluated.
