Ottawa – The Mozilla Foundation has put online the first beta version of Firefox 3.1.
This beta does not change in form but under the hood, Firefox 3.1 brings some significant changes. It integrates the highly anticipated TraceMonkey JavaScript engine that improves the speed of the browser. Attention, however, this engine is not enabled by default. There is also the new version of the Gecko rendering engine (1.9.1) and support for CSS properties 2.1 and CSS 3.
It also will allow private surfing, which is similar to the one in Google Chrome.
The final version of the Firefox is expected by the end of this year or early 2009.
