Ottawa - Nokia launched its first cellular touch screen, the 5800 XpressMusic. Equipped with 8GB of memory (for up to 16GB) and coupled in some countries with free music titles, giving apple’s iphone a viable competitor.Despite its advanced capabilities musical (with a new audio player), the Nokia 5800 smartphone is also a versatile, not so far away in terms of function that the high-end smartphones in the series N. It opens the new version of the Symbian operating system (9.5) and the first 60 Series touch interface (5th edition). The new browser has been improved and supports Flash 9.

The entire unit weighs 109 grams, measuring 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm, offers a large touch screen, 3.2 inches diagonal, the unusual resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. It is quad-band (GSM / GPRS / EDGE) and compatible with mobile broadband networks 3G/3G (UMTS / HSDDPA). It also includes WiFi wireless connectivity and Bluetooth and a GPS receiver / A-GPS.

The new handheld, will be available worldwide in the fourth quarter 2009 with a price tag around $400(USD).
