Both Internet Sites Hit With Virus Attacking With Bogus Emails
Montreal- In a surprising turn of events, the two social networking web sites, MySpace and FaceBook have both reported being under attack by a virus that sends mass amounts of bogus emails.
The virus is attacking FaceBook, causing various bogus email messages to be sent to different “friends list†people, urging them to watch a bogus YouTube video.
The email urges the user to download a “plug in,†in order to be able to use the site.
The download has the virus in it, and once downloaded it causes the user to send possibly hundreds of bogus emails, spreading the virus to others.
“Even when you carefully examine the bogus email, it has the right logos and web addresses, so it is easy to be duped,†said technical Expert Marc Saltzman.
Mr. Saltzman is a tech columnist and a syndicated technical Internet and Computer expert that received some of the bogus emails a few days ago.
“It is attacking one of the most popular sites that Canadians, as well as Americans and users around the world use,†according to Saltzman.
To attack users of FaceBook, the virus had to be very well constructed, and it unfortunately has fooled thousands of FaceBook users who have fallen for its hook, and downloaded the virus, spreading the infection swiftly to other users.
A similar web email bogus virus has been reported to be targeted at MySpace users.
