User Outcry And Activist Outcry Causes Game Retirement
New York City- The executives at Facebook wisely decided to drop a virtual reality game that allowed users to knife each other on the Internet.
The game, called “Shank†was one that could previously be added by any Facebook member and it appeared as a small profile virtual “Knife†in their user profile with a small black blade.
It allowed users with such a “Knife†to come up to and knife their “friendsâ€.
After a huge outcry on the part of many different victims groups, survivors of violent crime, and an increasing outcry from various political groups the executives at Facebook wisely decided to eliminate the game this last week.
The stupidity of having the game on the site in the first place amazed many people.
“Its unbelievable how stupid it was,†said John Knox.
Mr. Knox is the uncle of Rob Knox, a popular UK actor from the Harry Potter movie series tragically killed in a knife incident where he was defending another person.
Facebook applications are often written by third parties, and it shows that Facebook needs to have a better process of vetting new applications instead of having a “come one come all†approach that they have had up till now.
