Superior Court Judge orders the shutdown of quebectorrent.com, an Internet file sharing website and hub for exchanging files
ADISQ and APFTQ representing the Quebec artists asked the court for a permanent shutdown of the website quebectorrent.com, because they claim the site has been used to distribute songs, movies and television shows which are copyrighted in Quebec.
This is the first ruling in the province and will most likely give the entertainment industry a huge advantage in the case of file sharing.
The site’s administrator, Sébastien Brûlotte of St. Jérôme and also anyone to do with the site was orderd by Judge Pierre Tessier to have nothing to do with Torrent sites because of their Copyright violations.
ADISQ stated “sends a clear signal to similar sites and Internet users that the peer-to-peer exchange of protected files is illegal in Canada.”
Everyone who goes to the site now will be prompted about the sites suspention, and that message must be there for a whole year, the court ordered.
