New Revamped Web Site Gives Access To Privacy Changes

California – There have been changes to the Web site of Google, and the word “Privacy” now appears on the home page with a link to the company privacy policy.

The Web giant has attempted to head off a huge controversy regarding their adherence to a law on the books in California.

The California Online Privacy Protection Act of 2003 requires the owner or operator of a commercial based Web site that collects personal information to link to its privacy policy, and to have its privacy policy prominently posted for the public to access.

Google maintained for some months that it was not in violation of the California law, but suddenly the Web Giant posted a new addition to its Web Site with its Privacy policy link.

The Web Giant Google had maintained that they were not exclusively a California based business so the privacy law did not directly apply.

But, without notice late on Thursday July 3rd they quietly added a “Privacy” link to their web site, neatly dissolving any controversy by a quiet small addition to their home page site.

Google posted “We added this link to our homepage and results page to make it easier for users to find privacy information.”

Google did not mention the California law, but the Internet giant now is apparently in compliance with the California
