News is sweeping through the entertainment industry stating that action star Sylvester Stallone breaks neck while making his latest movie entitled “The Expendables”. While the macho actor did indeed sustain a hairline fracture to a neck vertebra the injury did not result in any serious, lasting physical damage. According to Stallone he had an operation to repair the fracture and a metal plate was placed to stabilize his neck.
The movie he was working on is one with real fight scenes because the star of “Rocky” wanted to pack the film with machismo and live action shots. The fight that was being acted out when the neck injury was inflicted was between Stallone and pro wrestler, Steve “Stone Cold” Austin.
Sylvester Stallone is no stranger to physical injuries while making movies and considering his advanced age he is very lucky to be up and walking around because the damage could have been much worse. Instead of headlines announcing that Sylvester Stallone breaks neck while performing his own stunts the news could have been far grimmer.
Stallone mentioned in an interview with Tele 5 in Germany that he will be making “Rocky 7”.
He said “I know I’ll probably make a fool of myself if I make another ‘Rocky’ film after turning 60. I also know there’s gonna be a lot of criticism. Even my wife says, ‘Don’t do it. You’re embarrassing the kids’. But I told her, ‘If I don’t try I’ll be a really unhappy man.’ You have to do it. Artists like me have to go through the dark over and over again,” he adds “When I was 21 years old and at drama school. My teacher said to me, ‘If you ever put your head out there, thousands of people will try to cut it off, but that’s exactly what you need to do as an artist.’ “I know it’s ludicrous and everyone would laugh. I would laugh about it. But I also know that I’d be successful if I can make this a film about becoming older, not about boxing but about myself.”
Stallone is currently directing “The Expendables” starring Jason Statham and Jet Li which is set for a release on August 20, 2010.
The 63 year-old will also be starring in “Rambo 5” next year so the assumption is that “Rocky 7” will happen after that, either late next year or early in 2011.
