Former reality TV star Nicole Richie is returning to TV.
The former Simple Life star is set to headline a scripted half-hour sitcom that is in development at ABC.
The show would feature Richie as a woman with complicated family relationships as she struggles to figure out her life plan, both professionally and personally, reports Variety.
It was Richie who came up with the initial idea for the show, and as a result, will get a producing credit to her name.
The former BFF of Paris Hilton, said on her blog that the show is inspired by the many different women in her life.
“Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman’s role should be in this era. I’ve taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We’re still in the very early stages and I can’t wait to share more with you soon,” wrote Richie.
Her previous TV roles include guest stints on Chuck, 8 Simple Rules, Eve and American Dreams. She starred alongside Paris Hilton in The Simple Life on Fox.
Aside from her prime-time TV aspirations, the mother of two is also working on her second novel, the debut of her clothing collection and shoe line.
Nicole Richie has been hospitalized after not feeling well for a few days.
A representative for the 28 year-old said in a statement “Nicole has checked herself into Cedars-Sinai where she is being treated for pneumonia. She is doing well.”
Richie was so sick last week that she missed the launch of her House of Harlow jewellery line. She even twittered “OK cold, it’s been 6 days. Let?s part ways graciously & keep it moving.”
Rumour had it that Richie had swine flu but that was quickly ruled out by her representative.
Richie has two children, Harlow, 1, and Sparrow, 2 months, with Joel Madden, lead singer of Good Charlotte.

Nicole Richie was involved in a car accident on Monday in Los Angeles.
The paparazzo that was following Richie rear ended her causing minimal damage to her car.
The Beverly Hills police said “Ms. Richie was driving with a passenger around 2 p.m. when she was struck by two photographers driving in one vehicle behind her. She complained of pain … Her car sustained moderate damage. No paramedics were called to the scene. She told officers she was going to seek her own medical treatment, so it’s unknown if she’s headed to a hospital or not.”
The driver who hit Richie has been arrested and will be booked for driving without a license and his car will be impounded. Luckily the passenger in the car wasn’t one of her children, Harlow, 21 months, or Sparrow, 1 month.

Nicole Richie has given birth to a baby boy today.
Baby Sparrow weighed in at seven pounds, fourteen ounces.
Richie wrote on her Web site: “In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden … He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow [their 19-month-old daughter] and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”
“We’re very, very blessed,” Madden, 30, told PEOPLE on Aug. 6 of the approaching event. “We’ve already had one healthy kid, and that’s all you can ask for as a parent — healthy kids.”
This is the second child of 26-year-old Richie and 28-year-old Joel Madden. Last year Richie gave birth to Harlow Madden.
Madden is the lead singer of the band Good Charlotte.
Richie is the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie.
