IndyCar driver Danica Patrick, who just three years to renew her contract with Andretti in the North American Autosport Championship, announced Tuesday she will race as a NASCAR track Championship next season.
Patrick, 27, the first woman in history to win an IndyCar Grand Prix in April 2008 at Motegi (Japan), will serve as the part-time driver for the team JR Motorsports in the ARCA Series NASCAR including the Championship begins in February. She will be driving a green Chevrolet and hit the orange N.7 February 6th at Daytona for the opening event of the ARCA Series.
“We’ve all been working very hard for some time now to bring this all together,” Patrick said at a news conference. “There’s much relief there, but I’m starting to get a little bit nervous that now it’s time to do my part of the deal and get out there in these cars and perform. It’s no doubt going to be challenging.”
The U.S. driver did not specify how many events she would compete in.
The 2010 IndyCar season begins March 14 in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and ends October 2 in Miami.
