Mel Gibson Sparks Protests in Mexico

Mel Gibson has created another controversy with the scheduled filming of his latest project. He is using a Mexican jail which requires the inmates to be transferred so he can have the run of the place. Families of the inmates are outraged and have staged protests in front of the Ignacio Allende prison in Veracruz.

The families are worried they will not be able to visit their loved ones if they are transferred out of the area. They cannot afford the travel expenses and their inmate loved ones will suffer from the lack of visitation and the food they bring them. The transfers were not supposed to happen until the end of January 2010 but recent sightings of cameras at the prison sparked a protest that included more than 300 family members outside the prison.

They have been assured they will receive notification before any prisoners are moved. The director of the prison Gerardo Duran, said there are no plans to move prisoners without prior notification and that only a section of the prison will be emptied. Veracruz governor Fidel Herrera refers to Mel Gibson as his friend. Gibson filmed his Mayan language movie Apocalypto in the city during 2006

Mel Gibson is planning to go back behind the camera next year.

The director – who will be the will be staring in “Edge of Darkness” in January and has finished shooting her scenes in The Beaver Jodie Foster’s – has got his hand on a screenplay from William Monahan (The Departed).

“This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel [and] Leo,” said Graham King, the film’s producer, in a statement released to Variety magazine.

The director has sought none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, although it is unclear exactly what kind of role he will have.

The last film directed by Mel Gibson was Apocalypto, Released in 2006.

Mel Gibson a Dad for the Eighth Time!

According to a report from RadarOnline.com Mel Gibson and his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva welcomed their first child together on Friday, October 30.

The couple reportedly had a baby girl who was born a month earlier that the December due date. Gibson’s wife Robyn Moore filed for divorce back in April after being married to the 53 year-old actor for 28 years. Shortly after the announcement of his divorce, Gibson made his first public appearance with Grigorieva.

He announced the pregnancy on the Jay Leno Show saying “I guess I’m Octo-Mel.” Gibson has seven other children with ex-wife Robyn. Grigorieva, 39, has a 12 year-old son named Alexander from a previous relationship with actor Timothy Dalton.

The birth has not been confirmed by either of the parents.
