ESPN Body Issue Hits The Stands With Serena Williams On the Cover Nude
ESPN has released their “body issue” today, causing some concerns among many Christian groups. The company expected mixed reviews, and is ready for the criticism. The ESPN magazine for this month has a total of six different covers available, all featuring different athletes posing nude.
The athletes are posed to show a lot of skin, but no actual nudity is revealed. The poses are very strategic and cover all areas that should be covered for a newsstand magazine. The athletes featured include Serena Williams(Tennis), Carl Edwards(NASCAR), Dwight Howard (NBA), Adrian Peterson(NFL), martial artist Gina Carano, triathlete Sara Reinertsen.
Serena Williams has been under fire for her part in the magazine cover. She has responded that she feels the photos are classy and not trashy. She complains about her own personal body issues, but explains she still feels beautiful, and wants girls to know they can feel beautiful as well, no matter how they look.
The magazine features athletes from professional and amateur sports, including hockey, surfing, golf and soccer. The issue is meant to focus on the athlete and their body styles. It has nothing to do with what is main stream beautiful, but an athlete with a perfect body for their chosen sport.
The magazine, which is owned by Disney, declares the photos are tastefully done. Each athlete will have equipment covering all the necessary places. It has been speculated that ESPN, is jumping on the “sex sells” bandwagon, and are using this issue to generate sales.
