Using Tiny Equipment Researchers Bend Light Backwards
Berkeley, CA- After several years of research the scientists at the University of California at Berkeley have found new and different ways to bend light backwards.
This is something that does not occur naturally in Nature, and it could lead to new development in optics, microscopes and other uses.
This discovery and process may allow scientists to peer into living cells, and to be used to create different methods of creating invisibility zones.
It is a big step forward in light and optical studies.
Scientists are guardedly excited, but they are still designing and working to further the new research.
Many of the discoveries have involved using a process called negative refraction, that means light is bend backwards, and for many years it was thought that it was not possible to do so.
Substances called meta-materials have now been able to be constructed in recent years, and the scientists have been able to bend long wavelength light.
In principal the materials that are negatively refractive can yield some interesting illusions, if a fish is in a pool and it is examined through negatively refractive materials it may suddenly be as if it is swimming in the air above the pool.
