Researchers Feel They Can Detect Hydrocarbon Liquids On Titan
Cape Canaveral, Florida- After a lot of consultation and study, the scientists at NASA have announced that they believe that at least one of the giant lake structures visible on the Titan moon of Saturn contain liquid hydrocarbons.
This discovery makes it the only area in our solar system besides Earth to have liquids detectable on its surface.
The presence of Ice Crystals has recently been confirmed on Mars by the Phoenix Lander, but the presence of any quantity of liquid has not been seen anywhere until now.
It is believed that Titan has several areas that are flush with these hydrocarbon liquids.
The NASA spacecraft Cassini flew by Saturn and its Titan moon, and it is through its observation and data relayed back to earth that the NASA scientists believe they have discovered these liquids on Titan.
Investigators and NASA scientists further believe that these lakes with the hydrocarbons have been observable for some time now, but until the pass by with the Cassini Spacecraft there was simply no empirical proof available.
Research and observation of Titan, Saturn and its rings, and other features in the region is continuing, but the possible presence of the hydrocarbons on Titan is considered a fairly major discovery.
