Possible Underlying Cause For Suicide And Depression Found
Ontario- A new study that yields a possible genetic link, or a genetic key to suicide and major life altering depression has been discovered by a team of scientists recently.
Researchers working in Canada have found that people who have committed suicide often have a particular abundant amount of protein dealing with a certain gene, one that apparently controls stress and anxiety.
This was compared to the brains of people who died from natural causes, or who died from heart attacks or other well-known causes.
The different in protein levels appears to be a type of genetic market or possible gene key.
This is revolutionary in that it may lead to positive discoveries in helping to identify those members of the community that are at risk for major life altering depression, or who are at risk of hurting themselves or committing suicide.
“This is truly a new road or avenue of research,” said Dr. Michael Poulter.
Dr. Poulter is the professor and lead researcher in pharmacology and physiology at the University of Western Ontario.
“Currently there are only a few researchers around the world looking at this,” said Dr. Poulter.
