Race From Texas to Canada Pits International Competition
Calgary-The long race from Canada to Texas has began, and the teams are jockeying for position as they all are nearing the end of the third stage of the North American Solar Car Race.
Overcast skies have played trouble with many of the vehicles, but they are all fiercely competing to see who will be first to complete the race.
The third leg, from North Dakota to Winnipeg had many of the race competitors working with assist teams, when cloudy skies prevented them from making it without assistance.
The race started in Texas on July 13th and is scheduled to finish on Tuesday in Calgary.
The University of Calgary Car, Schulich 1 was in seventh place, and is coming close to overtaking the sixth place vehicle, which is a very respectable showing so far.
Some of the race competitors have spend literally millions of dollars on their race entries, compared to the more humble University and shoestring racing solar car budgets.
On a sunny day, some of the vehicles can reach a top speed of 90 km/hr.
Tomorrow, Tuesday July 22nd is the scheduled end of the race, and it will be interesting to see who wins the race to Calgary.
