Can The Game Giant Continue The Momentum?
Los Angeles-The Nintendo Wii has been a cultural phenomenon and a radical success for its creators, but after selling 28 million consoles, can Nintendo continue its dominance in gaming?
The global president of Nintendo admits that the success of the Wii had taken the company by surprise.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata says; “We knew the Wii Console was the right direction for our company to pursue, but we didn’t know how long it would take to become popular.â€
The obvious answer to that question has been two years. Nintendo has changed how it does business and its approach to the home video game business, while maintaining the lead it holds with the handheld DS gaming system.
Mr. Iwata assumed the lead job at Nintendo in 2002, and he immediately started leading the direction toward encouraging more gaming.
One of the things that Mr. Iwata has been wise in doing is he took the view of someone that is not a gamer, and asked why regular people do not participate in typical video games.
This has led to the different innovations that the Wii platform brought to the market, with changed control panels and a wand that controls action with movement or a flick of the wrist.
