Civil Rights Groups Protest Big Brother Cell Phone Monitoring

Washington, D.C.-Well its not 1984, but there are a couple of civil rights groups that feel that the United States Government should reveal exactly how they use Cell phones to track individuals and groups.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Civil Liberties Union both filed suit in Federal District Court in Washington, D.C. under the Freedom of Information Act.

Both groups are seeking the Government to turn over any and all records of how cell phones are currently being used to track Americans, and to be able to pinpoint their locations.

Some of the different members of these two groups are alarmed, as they believe that the government should have to show cause before automatically using cell phones to track different American citizens.

Members of the Justice Department and the American Government have said in the past that they do not need to show probable cause, nor do they need a search warrant to track users of cellular and mobile phones.

This type of information and tracking data is what the two groups are seeking with their lawsuit. They want to find out exactly how the government is tracking citizens before deciding whether to challenge this monitoring in court.
