Boston (EON) – The idea as to how early humans involved may be getting an overhaul based on research from two African fossils.
The discovery was made by Meave Leakey and shows that two species who were very early human ancestors actually lived at the same time in Kenya. This means that human evolution was not some straight and linear path which many believed it was in the past.
This new research shakes up the theory on early evolution quite a bit as it shows that there was more than one human species roaming around at the same time.
The old theory was that Homo habilis evolved into Homo erectus. From there we evolved into Homo sapiens or humans.
These findings suggest though that 1.5 million years ago two species lived together. This went on for about one million years. The co-author of the study Fred Spoor said it is very unlikely that they interacted with each other.
