Washington (EON) – Microsoft for the first time will be releasing a free ad-supported version of their Works software package.
This is the first time which Microsoft will be giving the Works software away for free in an ad-supported package. The advertisements, according to Microsoft, are going to be placed very discreetling on the bottom corners of the screen and will not interefere with workflow or productivity in any way.
The Works 9 SE package will be pre-installed on all new PCs. The ads will come pre-loaded as well and when a user connects to the internet, the ads are updated and replaced with brand new ones.
Microsoft is testing the waters to see if advertising can actually support the distribution process financially of its Works and Office programs. Other companies such as Google offer Google Docs which is similar to Works and Office for free.
