Boston (EON) – MySpace has come out and stated that there were 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on their website, but that they have deleted all of their accounts.
MySpace has been in a bit of heat lately as it was only a few months ago when they stated only 7,000 registered sex offenders were on the massive social networking site. This number though has risen to 29,000 in a very short period of time.
The 29,000 accounts which were deleted are all believed to be a part of the US network only. This means that MySpace likely has many more sex offenders on the international level to deal with as well.
Chief security officer Hemanshu Nigam stated it was “pleased that we’ve successfully identified and removed registered sex offenders from our site and hope that other social networking sites follow our lead.”
All 29,000 of those deleted are convicted sex offenders.
