July 20, 2009 – Ontario Provincial Police have announced that investigators have found some remains, but are unsure if they are of Victoria Stafford.
They are calling them “suspicious remains†because they are certain that they are of the eight year old.
Victoria Stafford was reported missing on May 20. A surveillance tape was the last time the little girl was seen, and it showed Victoria walking willingly with an unknown woman.
Michael Rafferty and Terri-Lynne McClintric are the two that have been convicted of her kidnapping and murder and are still waiting for their trial behind bars.
Since Stafford has been reported missing there have been around 80 Ontario Provincial Police Officers and 25 Oxford Community police officers working on the case and investigating into her disappearance.
Sergeant David Rektor for Ontario Provincial police stated the remains that have been found were in a newer area of the search on private property in a rural field. Rektor also added that they don’t want to assume that they are of the little girl and they are just saying they are suspicious for now.
The police state they are not going to contact the family just yet for the new findings until they get back factual information stating they are of Victoria Stafford.
