City Is Just Millimetres From A New Rainfall Record
Toronto- With the recent rain that has fallen on Toronto, and with the forecast calling for more rain on Wednesday, the city is within a few millimetres of a total rainfall record.
Environment Canada reports that a total precipitation record for the City of Toronto for June and July is close to being broken with all of the recent rain that the city has experienced.
The summer of 2008 has been one of the wettest in recent memory and also one of the wettest ever on record.
About 240 millmetres of rain have fallen since the beginning of June.
The record of total rainfall for the Greater Toronto area is 271.5 millimetres of rain that was set in 1980.
About 30 millmetres of rain would cause the old record to fall, and there is still a week left in July to break the old record, with thunderstorms and rain forecast for the end of this week.
Only about 88 millmetres of rain fell during the same period last year in 2007.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted to hit South Ontario on Wednesday and Thursday, so there may be a new record by Saturday if the weather forecasts are true.
