Peterborough, ON- A research cancer risk study is being embarked upon by a youthful Trent University Graduate student, who recently received a Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Fellowship grant.
Allison Boyd, 24 yrs of age, is a graduate student and researcher at Trent University, and she was awarded a prestigious Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Fellowship grant last week.
The grant is a big aid to the Environmental and Life Sciences Master degree student, who hopes to turn up new information and data in her leading edge breast cancer risk study.
The amount of the new funding is $27,000 dollars, which is a sizable chunk of funding for an individual researcher.
Under direction and supervision by Professor Leslie Karr, Boyd will be working to chart new territory in the subject of breast cancer research.
Boyd will work with mice in the lab to investigate the effects of early care giving between children and mothers and its effects on the offspring mammary glands.
This is research that will help understand breast development and future cancer risk, and is a promising new area of study that may bear huge dividends.
