15 Year Old Wins Two Gold Medals
Ottawa- The top science award winner at this years Canada Wide Science Fair held last week was a 15-year-old girl from Walkerton.
Megan Schlorff was the top award winner, with two gold medals and a impressive scholarship worth 10 thousand dollars.
One project examined how the agricultural run off can impact the watershed in an area. It examined the watershed for the Saugeen River, and revealed that conditions from agricultural can affect the water quality.
Her project found evidence of coliforms, E.coli bacteria, and nitrates in the Saugeen River runoff.
The other gold medal entry from Ms. Schlorff was enough to convince the judges that she deserved the prestigious VIA Rail Environmental Innovation college scholarship. Each year one winner from the Science Fair Wins the Scholarship, valued at about $10 thousand dollars.
Other winners also were awarded prizes. Students from Grey Bruce also won silver and bronze metals.
For nearly 50 years the annual Engineering and Science Fair has been held in Ottawa, and it is one of the longest running and most successful Science Fairs for this age level anywhere on the globe.
