Toronto (EON) – TTC riders will pay more to ‘ride the rocket’ starting in November, after the Toronto Transit Commission unanimously voted in favour of a fare hike.
Here’s how the hike breaks down:
- TTC tickets and tokens are going up 15 cents
-Â Metro Pass will jump from $99.75 to $109
- Cash fares will stay the same at $2.75
“I’m not happy that we had to institute a fare increase, but I am happy that we have been able to protect services,” TTC Chair Adam Giambrone said.
The Sheppard subway line has been saved, but the 37 poor performing bus and streetcar routes could be back on the chopping block next year if council doesn’t approve the controversial land transfer tax.
“All this is contingent on the tax vote coming up in the next couple of weeks,” Giambrone added.
Meanwhile, City Councillor Michael Thompson called the doomsday predictions of mothballing the subway line and cutting bus and streetcar routes nothing more than a bluff, “It would appear so.” he said.
