WASHINGTON (EON) – Barack Obama warned Donald Trump not to hire Michael Flynn in his administration during a meeting in the Oval Office last November, according to two former officials of the Obama administration cited in this section of the New York Times .
Obama, who had dismissed Flynn as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, told the President-Elect that he thought the idea of having the post of National Security Advisor to the retired general .
Trump ignored Obama’s warning.
The Times exclusivity comes less than three hours before the expected hearing of Sally Yates, former interim justice minister, before a Senate committee to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
Yates was the one who warned the White House at the end of January that Flynn was in contact with the Russian ambassador in Washington and was vulnerable to the blackmail of Russia.
The White House of Trump also ignored this warning until the Washington Post made revelations about Flynn’s contacts with Ambassador Sergei Kisliak. Trump eventually dismissed Flynn by blaming him for misleading Vice President Mike Pence on the nature of his contacts with the Russian ambassador.
This excuse is less credible than ever. This probably explains Trump’s morning chirping which in particular tried to attribute to the Obama administration the hiring of Flynn in his administration. Must still do it!
