Battle of the Blades follows in the footsteps of reality shows – such as Dancing with the Stars and Splash – that pair celebrities with professional dancers or divers in a televised competition. This Canadian television show brings together two entirely different types of adept skaters from two of Canada’s favorite sports: professional hockey and figure skating.
At the beginning of week six, the remaining seven pairs were Oksana Kazakova & Vladimir Malakhov, Violetta Afanasieva & Jason Strudwick, Shae-Lynn Bourne & Anson Carter, Jessica Dubé & Brian Savage, Marie-France Dubreuil & Mathieu Dandenault, Amanda Evora & Scott Thornton, Sinead Kerr & Grant Marshall.
Week six of the Battle was set to an “international beat” and featured music from all over the world, with moves to match. Viewers were treated to songs from Japan, Russia, the U.S., Scotland and Korea among others. This week’s episode ended with a skate-off between Kazakova & Malakhov and Dubreuil & Dandenault. The former skated to I Don’t Believe You by a singer/songwriter from Sochi, while Dubreuil & Dandenault skated to Gentleman by Psy. Kazakova and Malakhov were on the chopping block and the judges decided not to use their save. This ultimately resulted in the couple being sent home and their charity, iOrphan Canada, receiving $25,000.
