Women across the world are constantly seeking out new beauty treatments to help them look and feel younger. You name it, from costly, department store brands to time-tested and proven home remedies, women of all ages have experimented with them all — or most of them. Whether, we’re looking to fight sagging and wrinkles, cure acne or rosacea or simply desire to look and feel more refreshed, we will stop at nothing until we find the right product for us.
Well, recently, scientists have discovered that a currently approved chemotherapy drug, which is also marketed to patients with precancerous skin lesions also, seems to be effective at reducing wrinkles and improving overall skin tone and texture. The drug is called flouroracil and when applied to the skin has the ability to lessen wrinkles over time and make the skin feel softer reducing the appearance of damage caused by sun exposure.
A study published by the Archives of Dermatology, revealed that this product was basically well-tolerated by most participants, all of whom had a condition known as actinic keratoses (precancerous lesions due to sun damage). After two months, there were reported differences in facial wrinkle reduction, ranging from “mild” to “much” improvement. 75% of the subjects expressed significant satisfaction with the product which contained 5% flouroracil as a skin cream. Many were so pleased with the results that they would be willing to use this product again.
Flouroracil is marketed under the brand name Efudex and is available by prescription only.
