Maple Leaf Recall Expanded To Include Bologna Cold Cuts
Ottawa- The tainted meat that has led to the huge meat recall in Canada has been expanded, it now includes bologna that is being sold under the Canex Maple Leaf brand name.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the vacuum packed packages may be contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium, and could be a health risk for consumers.
The meat recall has hit the Maple Leaf Meats company hard, and it may spell the end of their business after the effects of this widespread meat recall are felt.
Maple Leaf has nearly 220 products that are sold across the country that have been recalled voluntarily by the company after the first signs of the Listeria outbreak that has Toronto and Ottawa at large as well as the rest Canada reeling.
The meat is all being recalled because authorities believe that the meat is contaminated and at risk to cause Listeria as well as causing an overall health risk.
The current Listeria outbreak has led to a death toll of 13 deaths, and it continues to threaten the public with its spread of the Listeria bacteria.
The newest addition to the recall effort., the Bologna, has been revealed to carry high amounts of the deadly disease, but no sure source has been yet discovered.
Maple Leaf will be hard pressed to survive this recall, but so far they are cooperative and break the news each day of different additional cases of the Listeria that come to light.
