Various Views Are Conflicting Among Different Groups In Canada
Toronto-For years Canadians have buzzed along happily, enjoying a pleasant nebulous relationship with digital copyright issues, while their American Brethren have been embroiled in gigantic music content disputes and lawsuits.
Canada has been enjoying a largely quiet peaceful existence, with many people not knowing exactly what the copyright law says, and no one seemingly to care.
No one in the recent past has known what the law of copyright has been in Canada, and better yet, no one seemingly really to know or care what it was.
Well that is all in the process of change.
The new copyright bill for the Tories, which were, unveiled this last week is a shock to the system, a glass of very cold water to the proverbial face.
It is a law that spells out in very detailed fashion what can and cannot be done in the arena of digital media, and it clears up any misconceptions that existed out there.
It has been met with a lot of consternation and frustration by the general Canadian Public, as many people felt the status quo was working very well. Many Canadians did not know the specifics of copyright law, but then they were not major copyright infringers, either.
How it all eventually is resolved in the Canadian Copyright Court should be interesting, but the days of bliss and copyright nirvana is over.
