Canadian Radio Television Commission Issues Order
Ottawa-In another round of the ongoing controversy regarding Internet Throttling practices, the CRTC of Canada ordered Bell Canada to make public data about Internet Data Traffic, and to remove Congestion that is was allowing on its network.
This is seen as a positive step for the consumer, and another round in the long battle of the small ISPs against the Giant Internet Service providers such as Bell Canada and Rogers Canada Communications.
The Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission is giving until June 23rd Bell Canada to comply with their order.
Bell had said previously that the data being demanded by the CRTC was necessary to be kept confidential for propitiatory reasons but the commission was not buying that excuse.
In a letter to Bell Canada, the Director General of Competition for CRTC ordered Bell Canada to comply and that the need for disclosure to the public outweighed any concerns for privacy that the company maintained that they had.
Bell Canada is continuing to try to maintain that they need to limit peer to peer Internet communications and throttle, or limit the bandwidth for large Internet Users.
The Smaller ISP’s are alleging in their continued complaint with the CRTC that this is unfair and discriminates against the smaller ISPs and individual Internet Users.
