Fire Officials Examine Remains Of Charred Woodland
Halifax,N.S.-As the remains of a forest fire over the weekend are examined investigators are seeking to find the cause of the blaze.
Fire broke out on Friday near a housing subdivision about 40 kilometres to the east of Halifax and spread quickly in the high winds and warm dry air.
The fire was eventually contained but not before it destroyed an area nearly 15 kilometres long and three kilometres in width.
Thankfully, only 2 homes were destroyed in the heavy fire that destroyed woodlands near several subdivisions, and fire that threatened hundreds of homes.
10 other homes had various fire damage but escaped full destruction.
Fire fighters and first responders from nearby communities, as well as water aerial bombers from Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland and New Brunswick were called in to back up local firefighters who battled the blaze bravely.
Most of the people evacuated because of the fire were allowed to return late Sunday night.
The last 50 people that were evacuated from the region were expected to return to their homes on Monday afternoon.
Investigators have located a possible ignition spot near Lake Echo that may be where the fire was started, but the investigation continues.
Police and fire investigators are pouring over photographs that were taken of the area and are trying to find the cause, and the people if it was arson that started the fire.
