Figures Submitted By Statistics Canada Revealed For 2006

Calgary- The level of crimes that are being committed in Calgary have risen sharply, and created a great deal of concern for acts against special groups, such as homosexuals and other groups of minorities.

The group Statistics Canada have reported three times of the national average of crimes across the nation of Canada in Calgary. This is a sharp rise and have both officials in Calgary and nationally throughout Canada.

Police are credited with swift and enthusiastic response to battle these crimes, but there existence is troubling.

Figures revealed by Statistics Canada say that the level of hate crimes in Calgary are at 9.1 crimes per 100,000 people. The national level in Canada is 3.1 per 100,000 people.

The city of Calgary is normally thought to be very friendly, but statistics are pointing to a less than friendly approach to gay and lesbian populations in the City.

In addition, there are many victims of assault in the Gay and Lesbian community that are reluctant to come forward, this is true of victims of hate based attacks everywhere.

Because of this it is feared that the rate of gay and homosexual bashing in Calgary may be even higher than these statistics may show.
