Mayor Sam Sullivan Defeated By Newcomer Peter Ladner
Vancouver, B.C.- In one of the most stunning upsets in recent British Columbia politics the newcomer to the Vancouver Mayoral race has managed to knock off the incumbent and sitting Mayor, Sam Sullivan in the nomination for the Mayor’s race.
When the votes were counted challenger Peter Ladner had won the mayoral nomination seizing the Vancouver NPA party nomination post away from Mayor Sam Sullivan.
This is a sad closing to the Cinderella style story of a quadriplegic man who overcame many different obstacles to represent the city of Vancouver at the Olympics in Turin, and then also was the man who led the city of Vancouver as Mayor.
Because the Mayor was previously the Non Partisan association nominee but was displaced by Ladner, it will be Peter Ladner who is on the ballot this fall for Vancouver Mayor.
No one is certain how the events of the next week will play out, both in the term of actual logistics and a city that certainly will have some election healing to undergo.
The Mayor’s Chief of staff Daniel Fontaine said the Mayor will be working to wind up the work he has started as what amounts to his final days in officer occur.
