French President Reaffirms Support For United Canada
Quebec-The leader of the nation of France has spoken out, saying that while he respects and has love for the Quebec people, that he is firmly in support of a united Canada.
“We are very close to Quebec, but we also are close to Canada. We take our two friendships seriously, our two different commitments and loyalties are not in opposition,” said Sarkozy, at a graveyard in Normandy where he was paying respects to World War II Canadian Soldiers killed in battle.
Mr. Sarkozy was enthusiastic in his plea to encourage all Canadians to be unified, and spoke out for the sacrifice that all Canadians made during World War II in support of France and Europe.
The Governor General of Canada is in France to mark the 400th anniversary of Quebec City, and the comments made by French President Sarkozy supports the unity Canada view of the Governor General.
The presence of Ms. Jean in France and her outspoken comments calling for France unity has caused quite a stir among those sovereigntists who favor Quebec as an independent nation. The view of the Canadian Government is that without Quebec there would be no unified Canada.
