Many Retailers And Restaurants Nationwide Halt Tomato Sales
New York- There have been 7 new cases of Salmonella poisoning in New York in the last two days.
The overall salmonella illness that is gripping the entire nation shows no sign of stopping. There are over 270 cases in more than 30 states nationwide, and new cases are being reported every day.
Health officials are stumped, and they continue to investigate where the illness is coming from.
They are sure that it has its beginnings in tomatoes, but they are hard pressed to say where and exactly how the current salmonella outbreak has started.
The current strain is of the Saint Paul variety, and while it has not killed anyone as of yet there are over 35 people that have had to be hospitalized for complications from the illness.
Both the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and the Federal Food and Drug Administration based in Washington D.C. are working hard to try and find the source, and health officials in the different affected states are also researching and trying to find the cause of the salmonella illness.
More cases may be coming in the coming weeks, and officials are cautioning all people to avoid consuming raw tomatoes during the length of this salmonella outbreak.
