Providers In North America Issue Announcement With NY Officials
New York- A number of different Internet providers in Canada and the United States have agreed together to block known sites that feature child porn.
Firms gathered in New York City on Tuesday and met at a press conference with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to announce their new action to combat the spread of child porn and related child pornography.
The first firms in North America to announce such an action, the representatives from Times Warner Cable, Sprint, and Verizon joined with the New York Attorney General Cuomo to announce the action to help battle the spread of illegal and destructive child pornography materials.
The Internet service providers joined together and also announced the contribution of nearly $1.1 million dollars to a fund to help the state of New York fight against child pornographers.
The ISP providers agreed to block access to known newsgroups that feature child porn, and to help identify those sources within North America and especially New York State to authorities for legal action.
“The amount and pervasiveness of child porn needs to be stopped, it is out of control on the Internet,†said Attorney General Cuomo in his address to the media.
