Ottawa- There has been a lot of animosity and rancor of late between some members of the Liberals and Conservatives in Canada’s Ruling Circle. Many Liberals want to cease the combat operations in Afghanistan and favor a total combat pull out, or cease of any combat operations.
Conservatives seem to favor a more moderated approach, and the involvement of allies and NATO nations to help Canada with ongoing combat Operations.
Both sides have become very polarized, and many insiders have said that the continued conflict may trigger elections, and could pose an obstacle to the continued government of Prime Minister Harper.
On that note, the Conservative Government issues a statement on Monday, promising a new level of cooperation. During a previous meeting between Liberal Stephane Dion and Prime Minister Harper where Dion left unsatisfied, the Conservatives are now saying they want to work it out.
House Leader Peter Van Loan spoke in a statement saying that the Government wishes to compromise and cooperate, and that they would be willing to work with Liberal and Conservatives to forge a workable alliance.
The Prime Minister’s Government proposes an end to the Afghanistan mission in the year 2011. The Liberals strongly object, and want the mission to end much sooner, to cease combat operations perhaps as early as February 2009.
